Spiritual sight: Aoi had inherited her grandfather’s strong spiritual powers, including the ability to see ayakashi, which is not visible to the normal human eye. In the Apparent Realm (Utsushiyo), she had grown up being able to see ayakashi since young and had a few past encounters and incidents with some ayakashi. In her past memories, her appeasing to the encountered hungry evil ayakashi with her delicious cooked food had apparently saved her life several times. Aside from using food to appease hungry evil ayakashi, she is mainly seen occasionally giving food and feeding to smaller weaker hungry ayakashi like the the group of temari kappa by a river she passed by daily, who are vulnerable preys to bigger hungry ayakashi. However, with the knowledge of her being a strong target for ayakashi, she often chooses to avoid eye contact and ignore bigger hungry ayakashi who pose as bigger threats to her safety.

Cooking skills (spiritual energy food): Thanks to Shirō’s emphasis on Aoi’s cooking training since she came to live in his household, she has become an excellent cook with an ability to make spiritual energy food that ayakashi find delicious (sweet and light flavours) and that also helps to replenish and restore ayakashi’s spiritual powers. Initially, Aoi was under the impression that her grandfather preferred the sweet and light flavoured food that ayakashi loved. However, it was only later when she met and conversed with both Matsuba Sama and Akatsuki in the Hidden Realm (Kakuriyo) that she realized that her grandfather had actually preferred strong, salty flavours and found the ayakashi’s sweet and light food palate bland. Knowing Aoi would definitely be a strong target for ayakashi with her inherited strong spiritual powers, he had most likely trained her to cook accordingly to the ayakashi’s sweet and light food flavours, a form of protection against them whenever she encountered them in the future. As a result, she had mentioned that cooking has become a sort of stress-reliever and favourite pastime for her, and she likes cooking for ayakashi as it solely helps her to get closer to them.

Appearance

Aoi is described as a beautiful young woman in her college years with purple eyes and shoulder-length brown hair with bangs mostly swept to the right of her forehead. Ever since arriving in the Hidden Realm (Kakuriyo), she often received many comments about her closely resembling her grandfather, Shirō Tsubaki, in terms of his inherited strong spiritual powers and certain personality traits.

When she first arrived in the Hidden Realm (Kakuriyo), she was seen wearing a light blue colored dress with a bluish gray jacket. After beginning to work in Tenjin-ya, she is often seen donning the inn employee’s grass green kimono with a purple sash around her waist; however, when she later got abducted and forced to work in Orio-ya for a time being, she is seen wearing an ombre light green-yellow kimono with a blue sash around her waist instead. She often pins her hair up into a bun adorned with the Ōdanna’s gifted rose-quartz hairpin ornament when working in Tenjin-ya; but in Orio-ya, her hair is tied into a low ponytail instead using a ribbon. Yet, she is seen choosing to wear her hair down on certain occasions.

Appearance & Personality

Tsubaki is a slender, attractive girl with red eyes; her irises have a dull luster to represent her poor vision. She has long dark blue hair; some of it is pinned up with a red butterfly-shaped hairpiece or ribbon, while the rest hangs loose, partly covering the right side of her face and reaching her hips in the back. She wears a red-orange kimono tied at the waist by a thick white ribbon.

In the anime adaptation, Tsubaki’s eyes are purple instead of red; her right eye is shown to be constantly closed in the present, implying that it was damaged or lost at some point. Her hair is also longer, going down to her ankles in the back.

Tsubaki is introduced as a polite, considerate and friendly girl who has no desire to play the Survival Game; instead, she simply wishes to survive the Dead End predicted by her diary. She is quite intelligent and relies on her own intuition, believing Yuno Gasai will be Yukiteru Amano’s undoing. She forms a friendship with Yukiteru, describing him as cute and harmless. However, she forms a tense rivalry with Yuno, both trying to pull Yukiteru from one direction to another.

Tsubaki’s true colors are revealed along with her backstory; bitter, angry and emotional, she despises the world, the Omekata religion and her life. She deeply desires the power of God in order to destroy the world and recreate it in the way she sees fit. She is quite manipulative, having tricked Yuki, Yuno, Keigo Kurusu, Minene Uryu, and Yomotsu Hirasaka into coming to the temple in order to eliminate all of them easily. She plays the false role of a damsel in distress in order to easily lure in Yuki, mocking his habit to quickly trust people against him.

Upon revealing her true self, Tsubaki attempts to quell her own pain by tormenting others, primarily Yuno. She kisses Yukiteru just to watch Yuno squirm, and later suggests that several of her male followers gang-rape Yuno to lure out Yukiteru. This contributes to her ultimate demise, as she fails to consider how her actions could galvanize her victims or their allies; kissing Yukiteru prompts Yuno to attack her and nearly murder her on the spot, while her rape attempt gives Yukiteru the resolve to confront and kill her.

Tsubaki’s most valued possession, also known as Temari, is a handball that her mother gave her in her childhood; her descent to madness was expedited when she lost it during a «cleansing ritual» in the temple. She would only be reunited with her treasure after the destruction of her Diary; in her last moment of existence, Tsubaki could only shed tears of anger (in the manga) or sadness (in the anime) at the fact that the ball returned to her too late for it to matter.

Diary & Abilities

The Clairvoyance Diary

Tsubaki uses the Clairvoyance Diary, one of the few Future Diaries that doesn’ttake the form of an electronic device. It is a long paper scroll with a green scale design on the back; Tsubaki often carries it in the sleeves of her kimono until she needs it.

The Clairvoyance Diary records events through the eyes of the Omekata cultists, giving Tsubaki great control of her surroundings and any area her followers are in. Each follower’s observations appears on the scroll with a label indicating their name and location; by reading all of the entries, Tsubaki can consider multiple elements of the imminent future across a wider area than most other diaries.

However, given its reliance on her followers, the Clairvoyance Diary can be disrupted via internal sabotage, which can confuse Tsubaki or limit what information she can glean from the scroll. Examples include when Yomotsu Hirasaka hypnotizes most of her followers, leading to all the diary’s entries to reveal the same thing despite the followers being at different locations, or when Yukiteru Amano throws a ball into the air, making all of Tsubaki’s followers look at it for a split second. The Clairvoyance Diary also cannot directly predict the future aside from Tsubaki’s own Dead End, forcing her to guess the immediate future based on her followers’ observations.

Additionally, the Clairvoyance Diary is extremely vulnerable to damage compared to other Future Diaries. Being a long paper scroll that must be unrolled in order to read its entries, using it presents a large and extremely delicate target for Tsubaki’s enemies — it is treated as «destroyed» even if it’s only pierced by the point of a hand dart. As a result of this, Tsubaki often has to prioritize protecting her diary over defending herself in a fight, leaving her open to attack; against Yuno, this forced her to sacrifice one of her hands, leaving her even less capable of quickly handling her diary.

Tsubaki is a skilled manipulator, being able to lure three Survival Game participants and manipulate them into protecting her from the Twelfth with minimal suspicion to her true nature. Despite her partial blindness, she seems to be able to discern things rather well and act accordingly. Also, despite her crude past, her followers obey her every word, implying she is a respected leader despite her open desire to destroy the world.

Для сухих и повреждённых волос настоящим спасением станет именно этот шампунь от Tsubaki. Отзывы покупательниц о средстве на основе масла камелии и витаминов группы В и С сошлись во мнении, что продукт действительно придаёт локонам сияние. Поэтому средство получило оценку 3,9.

Производитель обещает, что результатом регулярного использования Extra Moist станет глубокое восстановление структуры повреждённых прядей и пробуждающее здоровое внутреннее сияние.

Personality

Tsubaki is a serious, mature, and intelligent person. She has always followed her orders from the Control Organization and has complete faith in them (likely to honor her family name). She has always had a childhood crush on Jin, and deeply loves and cares about him. She was also good friends with Noel, Makoto and Carl Clover when they were at Military Academy. However, when Hazama told Tsubaki about the alternative timeline where she was always with Jin as his secretary and how Noel usurped that position away from her, she becomes extremely jealous. She begins to harbor a hatred toward her best friend that, once manipulated by Emperor’s magic, evolves into a desire to kill her in order to be with Jin. Even after changing sides, she still respects Hakumen despite sharing different views.

In BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, Tsubaki’s personality had almost been completely overwritten by the effects of Mind Eater, the spell that Izanami cast on her to control her directly. Her devotion to the Control Organization had been taken to its greatest extreme, and she was little more than a mindless drone who lived to carry out any and all of the Emperor’s orders, including killing her own friends. When Jin confronted her, however, she showed signs of resistance due to her feelings for him. 

After Makoto, Noel, and Jin manage to free her from the Mind Eater curse, she realizes that the Emperor’s justice is a lie and decides that she will fight for a justice she believes in as an individual: to fight for the people she loves and the friends she cherishes. Even after eventually learning of Ragna’s actual blood-relation to Jin, she still acts antagonistic towards him, but comically dreams of an awkward possibility of accepting him as a possible brother-in-law. Another comical instance of her otherwise serious personality is her being infatuated with romanticized settings, as seen in Bang’s gag reel in Continuum Shift and/or her enthusiasm with the Six Heroes.

Background

Tsubaki is the only child of Hiraku Akame and Getsuka Uemura. Like others in her clan, she possesses the Steel Release kekkei genkai but did not manifest it fully until she was nine years old. She began attending the academy at six years old — becoming genin at 12 years old.

At nine years old, Tsubaki and her mother were kidnapped by a faction called the Hyakki Yako because of conflict between the former and the Uemura clan. While held hostage, both were mentally and physically tortured. The Hyakki Yako was not below kidnapping children with kekkei genkai to use as child soldiers — this was their plan for Tsubaki. However, she was unable to perform any steel release techniques for them.

Getsuka, unwilling to let them have her child, provoked those torturing them to herself to keep them from harming Tsubaki further.Watching her mother being tortured finally triggered her steel release. Getsuka begged Tsubaki with all her might to not stay with the Hyakki Yako, angering one of them, and, in a fit of rage he killed her.

Upset and devastated by her mother’s death, young Tsubaki went on a rampage, attacking anyone around her. Some were killed, while others were heavily injured. Exhausted from using steel release so heavily for the first time, Tsubaki collapsed at her mother’s side; trembling and crying as she hugged her mother’s corpse.

After several hours, Hiraku and fellow Konoha shinobi had found their location. He was greeted by his shaken daughter, and deceased wife. Tsubaki being severely traumatized from the event, could not stand up to walk home. She was carried by her father, who silently cried during their return to Konoha.

Tsubaki was immediately hospitalized and was monitored by Nazuna Sakuragi for the following two months. Tsubaki became quiet, and her emotions were blunted and non-existent, as well as being socially detached from her peers. Hiraku and Nazuna did everything they could for her mental well being. Tsubaki was treated with therapy for the greater part of a year before she could return to her academy classes. This helped her display some emotions again, but she still is unable to express herself like she used to.

As a genin, Tsubaki struggled to have any sort of emotional ties to her teammates and Rinne, despite them being childhood friends. During this time her father was guiding her through mental studies, kenjutsu and building their parent-child relationship. Tsubaki held great respect for her father because of this.

Through the missions her team did, Tsubaki slowly began to open up to them, learning the value of her teammates and formed a sense of justice. She realized her fears from the past were her motivation to make that into her strength; both Hiraku and Rinne noticing this improvement. Tsubaki’s mental strength however was still incredibly frail and often needed support in this area. She sees people and the world as black or white with no neutral or grey area in between. This is troublesome for her teammates as they need to prevent her from attacking people based on her impression alone.
